CASTIGLIONCELLO

Castiglioncello, a charming seaside resort, a green lung overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in front of Capraia and Corsica, visible from the town in the suggestive sunsets, together with the islands of Gorgona and Elba.

The Etruscan history of Castiglioncello is preserved in the small but charming museum of Castiglioncello, in via del Museo just behind our apartments in Villa Violetta. Every historical period has left, in the locality, well-preserved testimonies: from the Medici Tower dating back to the seventeenth century, born as a lookout tower on the end of the promontory, in front of our Torre Medicea Apartments, adjacent to the church of Sant’Andrea from 1864 which is built on the remains of a 17th century oratory.

Under the29aae3 there is the characteristic beach of the Cianciafera, surname of Countess Cianciafera Danieli, sister of Count Danieli who lived for a long time in the overhanging castle adjacent to the friendly tower of Umberto di Savoia which she hosted in the same Castle.

The currently free beach is accessible from the entrance on Piazza della Torre right in front of the Torre Medicea apartments. The suggestive glimpses between the Mediterranean green, the cliffs and the clear sea, stimulated the pictorial current De ‘Macchiaioli, as evidence are the numerous pictorial representations of our landscapes painted by Giovanni Fattori, Odoardo Borrani, Silvestro Lega, Telemaco Signorini, Giuseppe Abbati and many others, who stayed in Castiglioncello as guests of the patron Diego Martelli, giving rise to a famous artistic period such as the School of Castiglioncello.

The evocative Pasquini Castle, built by Baron Fausto Lazzaro Patrone between 1889 and 1891 by the Baron Patrone in a style that recalled that of the Florentine palaces of the Middle Ages, today is the seat of the cultural association Armunia, promoter of the Festival, as evidence of the nineteenth-century period. theatrical Inequilibro which takes place annually in the summer and the Castiglioncello-Costa degli Etruschi literary prize with literary section (September) and philosophical section (February).

Inside the Pasquini Castle there is an exhibition hall where international exhibitions are held, while in the splendid public park of the Pasquini Castle there is also an open-air theater.

Do not miss the splendid Baia del Quercetano a beautiful beach of medium-grained sand of amber color, set between two relatively man-made cliffs and equipped during the summer months, located near our Torre Medicea Apartments but also easily reachable on foot from Villa Violetta.

Another tourist attraction is the splendid Alberto Sordi seafront promenade, since it starts from Punta Righini where the Villa already owned by Alberto Sordi and even before the painter Vittorio Corcos is present. Located below Villa Violetta, the seafront promenade probes between coves and coves for more than 4 km from Castiglioncello to Rosignano Solvay to the Port of Marina Cala de ‘Medici or Porto del Gusto, crossing the splendid park of the Pineta Marradi in which there are open-air cinema, tennis club, minigolf, playground for children and suggestive local restaurants overlooking the sea such as Il Cardellino and La Lucciola, all reachable in a few minutes on foot from our apartments.
